One of the most popular questions dentists in Singapore get is concerning the cost of Invisalign treatment.

One of the most popular questions dentists in Singapore get is concerning the cost of Invisalign treatment.

This post covers the most recent information available about the cost of Invisalign treatment in 2020, as well as the factors that influence the price. After all, some dental clinics charge $4500, while others price up to $9500, and I'm sure you want to know why!

I'll also outline all of your clear aligner options in Singapore, including their prices. Please keep in mind that this article only provides pricing information for Invisalign. Visit this other guide post for a more in-depth look at Invisalign treatment in Singapore.

This other guide post discusses all of your braces treatment alternatives in Singapore.

1. How much does Invisalign cost in Singapore

In Singapore, Invisalign costs between $7000 and $9500 for treatment by an orthodontist (braces specialist).

Some dental clinics can quote lower pricing (i.e., between $4500 and $6000) because they do not cover pre-treatment, mid-treatment, and aftercare expenses, for example:

  • Dental X-rays

  • Retainers

  • Bite adjustments

  • Sectional braces or auxiliaries to achieve a better bite on the back teeth

Most important: If you were given a reduced price, ask your dentist if it includes refinement costs for a better treatment outcome. This may entail adjusting attachments and performing a re-scan or re-impression, followed by a new series of aligners at the conclusion of your initial course of treatment.

Finally, the actual cost of your Invisalign treatment will be determined mostly by your unique case .

Simpler instances necessitate fewer aligners, whereas more difficult situations necessitate more aligners, so it may be beneficial to obtain a personalized pricing estimate from several dentists.

In general, Invisalign treatment that lasts one year will be significantly less expensive than treatment that lasts two or more years.

2. What accounts for the discrepancy in Invisalign prices?

Your Invisalign treatment options are essentially classified into four categories:

  • Comprehensive package

  • Moderate package

  • Lite package

  • Express package

These categories indicate the amount of aligners made for you, as well as the laboratory expenses that your dentist must pay to Invisalign. More information can be found in below.

Invisalign Treatment Options Comparison

Comprehensive package:

  • As many aligners as needed to achieve the clinical target

  • Moderate to severe crowding/spacing, including vertical and AP errors prior to restoration

  • Additional aligners: unlimited before treatment expires

  • Treatment expiration: 5 years

Moderate package:

  • Up to 26 aligners

  • Mild to moderate skeletal discrepancies, crowding, spacing, vertical discrepancies, and prior to restorative treatment

  • Additional aligners: Unlimited for the first 2 years after shipment

  • Treatment expiration: 3 years

Lite package:

  • Up to 14 aligners

  • Class I, light crowding and spacing, non-extraction, pre-restorative

  • Additional aligners: Two additional sets before expiration

  • Treatment expiration: 2 years

Express package:

  • Up to 7 aligners

  • Treatment for recurrence and minimal movement

  • Additional aligners: One additional set before expiration

  • Treatment expiration: 1 year

Other Invisalign price factors

Other things that could raise prices include:

  • Complexity of treatment: Number of refining tweaks required

  • Pre-treatment and after-care expenses

  • Dental office overhead costs

  • Invisalign laboratory fees: Clinics that conduct fewer instances of Invisalign per year pay higher lab costs to Invisalign

3. Invisalign lab fees that dentists pay varies

One of Align Technology's (the company that owns Invisalign) strengths is marketing. You may have heard of Invisalign through a radio commercial or a Facebook advertisement. Its product name is nearly universal.

As part of their marketing approach, Invisalign assigns dentists to one of ten tiers:

  • Bronze (performs the least number of Invisalign cases each year)

  • Levels: Silver, Gold I, Gold II, Platinum, Platinum Elite, and Diamond

  • Black diamond

  • Blue diamond

  • Red Diamond (performs the largest amount of Invisalign cases annually)

Dentists in the higher tiers receive a larger discount on laboratory fees. This is the company's approach for encouraging dentists to take on more Invisalign cases each year.

Having said that, Align technology does track the price to the customer. Despite the variation in lab expenses, the entire pricing range in Singapore stays between $7,000 and $9,500. If you are considering having Invisalign, acquire a few quotations from different clinics to compare rates!

Every year, Align Technology increases its lab fees for research and development. However, most clinics absorb price increases and do not change their treatment fees from year to year.

4. Express, Lite, Moderate, or Full Invisalign treatment?

Each aligner, on average, may move teeth by 0.25mm.

Your dentist/orthodontist will choose the best treatment choice for you based on the amount of tooth movement required.

However, virtual planning and actual consequences are two distinct universes. What appears on the computer screen and what occurs in my patient's mouth can be very different.

Sometimes your teeth do not follow the virtual plan, and more aligners are required to get a better result.

As a result, most dentists prefer to select a treatment approach that allows for an acceptable degree of error rather than forcing their patients to spend more for more aligners down the future.

5. Should you pick an orthodontist or dentist for Invisalign treatment?

Comparison between Orthodontist and General Dentist

Four to five years of university dentistry training (Bachelor's Degree)

  • Orthodontist: Yes

  • General dentist: Yes

Three years of full-time university specialty training in orthodontics (Master's Degree)

  • Orthodontist: Yes

  • General dentist: No

Expertise in diagnosing, preventing, and correcting dental and jaw misalignment

  • Orthodontist: Yes

  • General dentist: To a small extent

Addresses misalignment-related issues like headaches and tooth deterioration

  • Orthodontist: Yes

  • General dentist: Limited

Continues to learn about new orthodontic technologies

  • Orthodontist: Yes

  • General dentist: Varies

Provides general dentistry services

  • Orthodontist: No

  • General dentist: Yes

Provides cosmetic dentistry

  • Orthodontist: No

  • General dentist: Yes

This is a difficult topic to address because the subject is controversial.

The importance of orthodontic training

To become an orthodontist (a braces specialist), one must complete an extra three-year full-time University Masters training program.

At the completion of the three-year program, candidates are evaluated on their ability to execute orthodontic treatment without supervision.

In other words, orthodontists receive more structured training and rigorous testing than regular dentists who also provide Invisalign treatment.

Is it always preferable to receive Invisalign treatment from an orthodontist rather than a dentist?

No. When Invisalign was initially introduced in 1997, both general dentists and orthodontists had to adapt to a new technology and acquire new skills to use a different manner of moving teeth.

There are general dentists who do excellent work. Some orthodontists, on the other hand, may be more resistant to Invisalign treatment since they are so familiar with traditional braces treatment.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to selecting a doctor that can give you a safe treatment experience.

If you are still undecided, it may be beneficial to speak with both a dentist and an orthodontist before deciding on a treatment provider based on each doctor's objective and factual qualifications in their field.

6. Why does it matter which dentist I choose if Invisalign manufactures my retainers in a laboratory?

Invisalign is a laboratory that uses 3D technology and proprietary software (Clincheck) to create aligners. Invisalign does not diagnose or treat specific conditions. Your dentist's prescription still determines how and what to make.

The approach begins with a proper diagnosis of your illness and a specific treatment plan, which is the most important aspect of the entire treatment. Your dentist's treatment plan will then direct the Invisalign technician on how to virtually position your teeth.

Once the technician has completed the virtual setup of your teeth, he will return the file to your dentist.

Your dentist will next evaluate the setup and make any required changes based on his knowledge and comprehension of the possible tooth movements with aligners.

On computer software, you can relocate teeth wherever you like. However, only your dentist will be able to determine the biological limitations and what is feasible.

Invisalign treatment is mainly dependent on your dentist's advice on how to position the teeth. This is why it is critical to select a dentist/orthodontist who you are comfortable with!

Your dentist's work does not stop there. Close monitoring of your treatment is essential to guarantee that your teeth adhere to the virtual plan.

If certain teeth do not follow the plan, your dentist will need to decide what steps to take to get them back on track.

As a result, dentists frequently make refinement changes during Invisalign therapy.

7. Are there any subsidies or discounts for Invisalign treatment in Singapore?

Unfortunately, you cannot utilize Medisave to pay for Invisalign treatment because it is not considered a surgical procedure.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Health does not provide funding for braces treatment at government hospitals, higher institutions, or private clinics.

The main reason for this is because Invisalign treatment is considered "elective," which means that it can frequently be delayed until a more convenient time.

As a result, it will be difficult to justify taxpayer money for an operation that does not require immediate attention, as opposed to, say, a dental infection.

How about dental insurance for Invisalign?

Most health insurance policies do not include dental coverage for braces as a regular benefit.

Furthermore, Invisalign treatment is classified as an aesthetic orthodontic treatment and is typically not covered by your insurance plan, even if it includes dental coverage.

8. How much do alternatives to Invisalign and other clear aligner brands cost?

Invisalign:

  • $7000-$9500

  • All types of malocclusion

Metal braces:

  • $4,000-$5500

Ceramic/tooth-colored braces:

  • $5000-$6500

Zenyum:

  • $2200

  • Front tooth straightening; non-extraction procedure

Mbrace:

  • $4500-$6800

  • Mild-moderate complexity, non-extraction treatment

Ecligner:

  • $5000-$7000

  • Mild-moderate complexity, suitable for simple extractions

In-house aligners:

  • $150-$250 each aligner; some clinics offer treatment bundles for $1,500

  • Mild crowding and mild spacing

9. How much does Invisalign consultation cost?

Invisalign consultations typically cost between $50 and $100. This excludes any records that may be taken during the consultation visit if you decide to proceed with Invisalign treatment.

Before making an appointment, call the front desk and inquire about consultation fees, or acquire pricing quotations from various dentists.

I hope this information helped you find a good Invisalign provider in Singapore!
